This picture really shows in detail how the statue of the Buddha has been carved straight out of the rock face. The statue has been cut from the granite rock face behind approximately  500BC. Can’t even imagine the time it would have taken to do this, especially given the fact that grant is one of the hardest rocks in the world, coupled with the rudimentary tools which the craftsman would have had! It indeed would have been a lesson in patience and perseverance – perfect for a Buddhist Monastery!
